On Thursday, a newly constructed building collapsed in Rohini Sector 16; two more people died in that incident, taking the death toll to three in total.
The two latest deaths were identified as Kafe (24), a labourer, and Ram Dua (62), husband of the building’s owner.
Regarding the collapse of a building in G-4 Pocket, Sector 16, Rohini, a PCR call was received around 4:28 pm, according to the police.
Police hurried to the site and found that the two newly built buildings at G-4/151 and G-4/152 caved in completely, scattering debris across the street. The residents told police that several labourers working inside were feared trapped.
The information was sent right away to the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), fire department, and other civic bodies, bringing about the joint rescue effort.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) Shashank Jaiswal said that the area was secured and nearby buildings were vacated as a precaution.
Among those who pulled out, Ram (42), a mechanic, was taken to BSA Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Saddam, a labour was rescued alive from the debris.
In the night, rescue workers were digging and searching for people stuck there and by the morning, they found Kafe and Ram Dua’s bodies under the debris, taking the death toll of three.
The rescue team had taken hydraulic cutters and heavy machinery, including JCBs, to clear the debris. Oxygen and water were also supplied to the alive, stucked and needed people, with rescuers maintaining contact through the night.
By today, most of the search is over. The rescue team said their operation is mostly completed, as three died and five people rescued, though some workers are still clearing debris at that site. The Police has also registered an FIR and says that the investigation of what caused the buildings collapsed is still under examination.
