While there are some people who struggle to meet their own basic needs, a Delhi delivery guy has chosen to give a big part of his income to those in need.
Aakash Saroj, who has worked as a delivery rider for the past six years, spends nearly half of his monthly earnings providing meals to homeless people across parts of the national capital. Along with his delivery job, he also creates content on social media, although he says it generates no income.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Saroj said his decision to feed strangers is rooted in the values implanted by his late father.
“My father’s values, I want to ensure no one sleeps hungry” he said by explaining what motivates him to continue this despite the financial burden.
Saroj says he earns around ₹1,200 a day, that is ₹36,000 a month out of which he spends around ₹500 a day, which is ₹15,000 a month to help people living in the streets.
He highlighted that initiative is self funded entirely.
He earns nothing from Instagram. Everything is 100% self-funded from his delivery work.
Balancing work and his mission to help others come with many challenges. He works long hours as a delivery rider but in his free time, he cooks and distributes food to the homeless. He bears that entire cost by himself and often sacrifices his own comfort and savings to continue to help those in need.
Despite the hardships, he says the smiles on the faces of those who receive a hot meal make every sacrifice worthwhile. One of his most memorable experiences, he recalled, was serving freshly cooked food to homeless people near the Kashmiri Gate flyover. Saroj mainly distributes meals in Pitampura, Rohini, Jahangirpuri and GTB Nagar helping anyone in need living on the streets.
By reflecting on his journey, he shared a message that helps him to continue to do his work: “No act of kindness is small. True success is giving back to society.” His story highlights that how a single individual, even with limited means, can make a meaningful difference through compassion and determination.
