46-year-old Man Arrested for Beating Roommate to Death

Two roommates in Najafgarh, New Delhi, were involved in a fight which led to the death of one of them during a late-night drinking session.

The suspect, 46-year-old Ranjit Ram, was arrested for beating up his roommate, 46-year-old Dadan, to death at their rented accommodation in the Ajay Park area on the night of 28th August.

The two men had consumed alcohol together when a fight started due to a minor dispute under the influence. “Around midnight, Ranjit allegedly assaulted Dadan with fists and blows to his face and head. During the assault, Dadan fell on the floor and sustained an injury,” a senior police officer said.

According to the police, Ranjit slept in the room with the body after the murder, there were traces of blood found at the location.

The situation was revealed on the following day after Ranjit allegedly found Dadan dead at the accommodation and informed his family members. Ramesh, Dadan’s nephew, made a PCR call on 29th August.

A crime team conducted an inspection of the accommodation site and carried out the relevant procedures. Police also examined the scene as part of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

Dadan, who was originally from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, was living in Delhi with Ranjit as a tenant. His body was taken to Rao Tula Ram Hospital for a post-mortem to find out the exact cause behind his death.

Police have registered an FIR in connection with the case and arrested Ranjit. Investigators are now looking into the sequence of events leading up to the assault and examining other details surrounding the incident. Further investigation is underway, police said.
