India Meteorological Department: Red Alert in Delhi NCR

On Wednesday, major parts of Delhi NCR faced heavy rain and thunderstorms. It brings relief from the heatwave and humidity.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a red high alert: they expect more rain and thunderstorms throughout the day. As per the weather department’s forecast for the next few days, the temperatures are expected to stay between 32°C and 37°C.

As compared to the Indian Meteorological Department’s released district-wise forecast for Delhi-NCR, similar climate conditions are expected across all five districts. The forecast covers North, South, East, West, Central, New Delhi, Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, Southeast, and Shahdara, along with the NCR cities of Faridabad, Gurugram, Noida, and Ghaziabad.

IMD issued a red alert for 7th July. They warned of moderate rainfall across many parts of the city, while some areas could see a heavy downpour. The department has also warned that the thunderstorm, wind, and gusty winds can reach speeds of 70 km/h.

Another bout of rain, like tonight. The weather on 8th July, as per the IMD, is quite similar. At noon, the weather will be gusty winds, thunderstorms, and rain.

On 9 July, according to IMD, some areas may receive light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms and strong winds in the morning before the afternoon.

On 10 and 11 July, IMD released a green alert for the days’ forecast; the department said the sky would be cloudy with a minimal chance of rain. In some areas of Delhi, there might be chances of light rain in the middle of the forenoon or afternoon.

The weather department said there is a 20-50 per cent chance that the next 5 days’ weather might be the same.
