On Friday, the centre appointed a new police commissioner of Delhi, Anurag Kumar, a 1994-batch IPS officer. He replaces it with the 1992 batch Satish Galoch, who became a Delhi chief last August.
Earlier, Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar was serving in AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory); he was posted as a special director in the intelligence bureau.
The appointment of the committee of the cabinet, headed by PM Modi, was transferred back to the intelligence bureau; his parent (AGMUT) cadre appointed him as the new commissioner of Delhi Police.
As per the Home Minister’s order, they approved an appointment letter for Anurag Kumar and said he has been directed to take charge with immediate effect and serve as commissioner of Delhi police until further order of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The tenure of Satish Galoch was until 2027, but now he will serve as a lieutenant governor.
As per the senior police officers who posted in the Delhi Police headquarters, Anurag arrived at the headquarters at noon to formally assume charge as a new police commissioner of the Delhi Police. He took over the office on the 17th floor of Tower-1, marking the beginning of his tenure; at the same time, Galocha left the headquarters office.

In 32 years of his career, he has received so many awards, like the Police Medal of Meritorious Service 2010 and the president’s police medal for his distinguished service 2016. In the previous 5 years, he has been promoted for twice his distinguished service. Now he serves as a Delhi police commissioner.
