On Tuesday, the Delhi government demolished the illegal shrine that had developed in the middle of the road. The government wants to continue the road widening project that connects Pritumpura to Shalimar Bagh as per the Delhi CM’s office.
The action taken by the government is aimed at Wodinga Road and at reducing traffic on the key road.
As per the CM office, the Delhi government has taken strict action against illegal construction and the encroachment on government land.
The road widening project is in progress on the main route connecting Pritumpura to Shalimar Bagh. The government said that the motive for the road widening is to provide a smoother and obstruction-free commute.
The demolition drive is part of the government’s wider campaign to remove illegal structures from the public road.
Since June 1, authorities have demolished 94 illegally constructed buildings and sealed 114 buildings for violations of construction rules and safety standards. The government officials said this after the fire tragedy happened in Malyiva Nagar on 3rd June; the government ramped up the enforcement drive after the incident. Since then, 63 buildings have been demolished.
The biggest demolition drive was carried out on June 3, with 22 structures demolished in a single day. Authorities also sealed 97 buildings during the period, including 79 properties on June 7 alone.
The revenue department inspected 124 sites across the 13 districts of Delhi and took action whenever they were found in violation of the law. The MCD, Delhi Development Authority (DDA), and other agencies have recently joined the demolition, sealing, and inspection drive.
Delhi CM Rekha Gupta has said the Delhi government has taken strict action against those doing construction on government land. The government is taking action against the enforcement and violation of fire safety while putting in place a long-term system to prevent such illegal activities in the future.
The government is also considering a third-party insurance system for buildings and public-use establishments. Under the proposed framework, insurance coverage would depend on whether a building complies with structural and fire safety standards.
