16 Councillors of the IVP “AAP Breakaway Party” Merge with BJP for Delhi Development

All 16 councillors of the Indraprastha Vikas Party broke away from the AAP and have joined the BJP. At the party’s headquarters in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and BJP President Harsh Malhotra.

The Delhi Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, said, “The Indraprastha Vikas Party is welcomed into the BJP, and they chose the BJP for Delhi’s development. “It’s a good sign to accelerate Delhi’s development,” she disclosed at the press conference.

Rekha Gupta pointed out: the priority of the BJP government is the development of Delhi; after joining VIP in the BJP, reinforce the municipal cooperation of Delhi and expand the work in the municipal ward.

The BJP president, Harsh Malhotra, said the Indraprastha Vikas Party was formed 1.5 years ago by councillors led by Mukesh Goel and Hemchand Geol; they noticed that under the AAP government, Delhi is not progressing as effectively as it should, and he said all 16 councillors of the Indraprastha Vikas Party joined the BJP and took membership as well.

Indraprasth Vikas Party president Mukesh Goel told news agency PTI that earlier joining the BJP government among all the councillors was deliberated and discussed this week.

Goel told PTI, “We have noticed the work of the BJP party for one and a half years, and after extensive discussion, we collectively decided to join the BJP. They will lend their support to development in Delhi wards.” 

He told the press that he did not discuss any agreement with the BJP government. Whatever role they assign, we will do it with integrity.

The Indraprasth Vikas Party was formed in 2025 after 16 AAP councillors broke away from the party following a difference with the AAP leadership in the MCD. The development had taken place ahead of the MCD election of a chairperson and deputy chairperson of the 12 ward committees.

The party source said that the senior VIP Mukesh Geol had been appointed as the chairperson ad hoc of the special committee of MCD, while Hemachand Geol would be nominated as a BJP member of the standing committee of the central zone. There is no official announcement that has been released.
