The Election Commission of India has changed the timeline for Delhi’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. This gives election officials and voters more time to complete the verification process. House to house visits by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will continue until August 8. Electoral roll draft will be published on 17th august.
This extension follows a request from Delhi’s election officials for more time to finish their tasks. According to the officials the new timeline is to ensure the verification carefully. It also allows voters enough time to check and update their information before the final electoral roll is completed.
As a part of Special Intensive Revision, the BLOs are visiting house to house across the capital to verify the eligible voters and also distributing them the pre-filled remuneration form.
Residents can confirm their information, report corrections, and ensure their names are correctly listed in the electoral roll. The process includes all 70 Assembly constituencies and over 13,000 polling stations in Delhi.
Recent data from the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer’s office shows the significant progress in the field exercise. Enumeration forms have been handed out to more than 99 percent of Delhi’s registered voters. However, the digitisation of these forms is still ongoing, with only about 15 percent uploaded till now. The Outer North district has the highest digitisation rate, while the other areas including Old Delhi, East, and Southeast districts have slower progress in verification.
After the draft electoral roll is published on 17th August, the voters can submit their claims or objections about the errors or omissions until 16th September. Electoral Registration Officers will review all of these applications before making the final electoral roll published on October 19.
Election officials have stated that this extra time will help them to complete household verifications and reduce the risk of eligible voters being left out. The Commission has emphasized that the goal of the Special Intensive Revision is to create an accurate and updated electoral roll by including all eligible voters and removing ineligible entries through the verification process.
