Delhi SIR voter list released; 47.56 lakh names were removed

New Delhi: More than 47 lakh names have been removed from the latest electoral roll that was released by the election commission on Monday following the SIR drive in Delhi.

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process was conducted house-to-house, and Booth Level Officers (BLOs) were allotted for each locality in Delhi. This was a huge exercise that was carried out as an effort to revise the voter lists, identify anomalies and remove names which are considered ineligible.

Other than the removal of any discrepancies, the SIR drive has also helped in reducing the gender disparity in the voter list. As per the figures released, the gender disparity in the voter list has reduced from 912,990 to 224,856. It was also exercised to address any discrepancies among the existing voters in the list.

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) clarified that the deletion of voters should not be interpreted as the removal of genuine voters. According to the CEO, the exclusion of the names was according to the categories determined during the SIR enumeration process.

Many voters were deemed “uncollectable” under the category of Absent, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate and Others (ASDDO). Names that came under this category were removed from the electoral roll in the verification process.

Voters whose names were excluded from the roll are given the opportunity to file their inclusion between August 31 and September 30. During this period, affected voters can submit their queries and objections to have their names included in the final electoral roll.

Applicants will have to submit Form 6, which is the application to seek inclusion of a name in the Electoral Roll. Applicants need to submit relevant documents confirming their date of birth and address. Voters can check their names in the draft roll by visiting the Election Commission website.
