The Delhi Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, has formally requested the union minister of transport and highways, Nitin Ghadkari. Appealing to him to announce the Mandi Road in South Delhi as a national highway and put it in the charge of development to the National Highway Authority of India.

Mrs. Gupta has written a letter to Mr. Ghadkar; she highlighted that the 8.8-kilometer-long Mandi Road played an important role. It connects Mehrauli to Gurugram NH-148A, near Chhatarpur Metro Station, with the Gurugram-Faridabad Road at the Delhi-Haryana border.

The Delhi CM pointed out that the Mandi route connects the Delhi-NCR with the economic hubs of Faridabad and Gurugram. They played a vital role in connecting, ensuring the smooth interstate traffic movement.

She mentioned in the letter a unified traffic and transportation infrastructure planning and engineering center (UTTIPE), a governing body, which said in a 68th meeting held on 27 September 2023, they believe in the importance of Mandi Road and support the proposal of widening and developing the entire corridor.

She said to the union minister to announce the mandi road as a national highway and put it in the charge of the NHAI so that they could make a strategic development plan so that it could be implemented, consistent engineering standards could be followed, and the road could be upgraded on time.
